The VNW is an interest and auditing association for housing cooperatives.

The association works in politics, business and society for the benefit of the association’s companies and their tenants. The affordability of housing, environmental and climate protection and a high quality of life are key objectives.

The VNW offers educational programs, events, expert advice and an exchange of experience.

The VNW currently represents the interests of 439 housing cooperatives, municipal and socially-oriented private housing companies and sponsoring members from Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein.

Initial situation
The Association of North German Housing Companies (VNW) already relies on the modern HR platform Personio for its personnel management.
However, the process of operational personnel cost planning as a sub-plan of corporate planning was still carried out in Excel. This was time-consuming and error-prone due to the manual effort involved.

As part of the VNW’s digitization efforts, personnel cost planning was to be converted to PeoplePLAN without media discontinuity. The aim was to implement both continuous forecasting and operational medium-term planning with constantly updated data.

Project goals

The primary objective was to implement integrated personnel cost planning based on the HR master data and salary data from the Personio platform. Reporting was also to be integrated into personnel cost planning.

  • Create transparency: A clear overview of the forecast of headcount and personnel costs should be possible at all times.
  • Automation and efficiency: Manual planning in Excel should be eliminated in order to improve and speed up the entire process.
  • Ensure HR data is up to date: HR data should always be up-to-date to enable timely and well-founded decisions.
Result and benefit

The successful implementation of these goals was achieved through the integration of PeoplePLAN. The software proved to be the optimal solution for implementing integrated personnel cost planning in addition to and integrated into the existing Personio environment.

The following results were achieved:

  • Clarity and overview: PeoplePLAN enables a transparent presentation of the current and future workforce and allows forward-looking scenario comparisons of personnel costs.
  • Avoidance of manual activities: Integration eliminates the need for manual planning in Excel, resulting in faster, simpler and less error-prone processes in personnel planning.
  • No more outdated data: The seamless integration of PeoplePLAN with Personio guarantees that HR data is up to date and enables optimized operational personnel planning and decision-making.
