The Bitburger Brewery Group, based in Bitburg in the Eifel region, is a German family business in its 7th generation and employs around 1,600 people. The brewery group is one of the leading brewery groups in Germany. Its products are sold in over 75 countries on all five continents.

The Bitburger Brewery Group brews and markets exclusively premium products. The company owns the brands Bitburger, König Pilsener, Köstritzer and Licher. It also has a sales partnership with Benediktiner Weißbräu GmbH.

Initial situation

Transparent operational personnel cost planning is an important success factor for the Bitburger Brewery Group with its 1,600 employees.

The HR department takes over the annual budget and headcount planning centrally, which was previously carried out by providing data via SAP BW and making additions to Excel tables. This process was time-consuming and resource-intensive due to the complex consolidation process.

In order to improve efficiency, transparency and data security in planning, the process was to be digitalized with the help of PeoplePLAN Personnel Cost Planning. As the Bitburger Brewery Group uses an SAP HANA-based embedded BW system for managing HR master data and payroll data, in which SAP HCM and SAP BW are integrated in one system, the aim was to create a system-based solution that takes HR data directly from the existing and integrated HR system in order to ensure reliable planning with up-to-date data at all times.

  • User acceptance through the use of an intuitive web interface with reporting functionality.

Result and benefit

All personnel costs are now planned directly by HR for later transfer to the controlling system in the same way as the actual postings and prepared for each controlling area and cost center. The data is smoothed and made available to Controlling together with the provisions created.

  • This process is standardized at Bitburger thanks to the introduction of the tool, which significantly increases the efficiency and transparency of the personnel cost planning processes.
  • The planners use the web-based personnel action planner, which enables intuitive and simple planning down to employee level, which is carried out at regular intervals on a rolling basis.
  • The plan data is available for reporting in SAP Analytics Cloud at any time thanks to a seamless transfer.
